Ljubljana will host two major BMX race events this season, on two consecutive weekends!
On June 15th, the BMX Park Ljubljana will host the National Championship in this Olympic discipline, followed a week later, on June 21st and 22nd, by the traditional international BMX Race Ljubljana, part of the Dr. Auer BMX Alpe-Adria series and the Slovenian Cup.
New date, new goals
The BMX Race Ljubljana was originally scheduled for April 5th and 6th, but preparations for the race have been made more difficult due to the reconstruction of Linhartova cesta. The new date brings many other advantages, while the opening of the Dr. Auer BMX Alpe-Adria season will still be in Slovenia, namely in Maribor.
More than a decade of events at BMX Park Ljubljana
BMX Park Ljubljana has been the venue for Slovenia’s largest Olympic BMX race for more than a decade, and for the seventh year in a row the two-day event has been called BMX Race Ljubljana. The June race will certainly attract a diverse international line-up to Ljubljana, as the race is part of the Dr. Auer BMX Alpe-Adria series, which brings together organizers from Austria, Hungary and Slovenia, and of course invites competitors from the wider region to participate. The race is also considered as Slovenian cup.
Almost the day before the race weekend
The race weekend will really start on Friday, on the eve before of the race, at KoloPark Aleja, where the Argeta Junior KoloPark Cup, a fun cycling event for young people, will be held. On Saturday, after the main race, a time trial will take place on the BMX track. This race is an opportunity for each competitor to show their ideal lap and secure a high ranking with a fast time.
National Championship a week earlier
KD Rajd, which is responsible for organizing the race and also oversees the maintenance of the BMX Park Ljubljana and the implementation of the cycling school, will organize the national championship in this discipline at the same venue this season. This will take place a week earlier, on June 15. The fight for the national champion’s shirts will take place in children’s, youth and member categories.
